Book Art: Translating Text into Visual Form (Introduction)
Book Art: Translating Text into Visual Form (Introduction)
About the Course
How can a written text be transformed into a visual and physical book object? What governs the relationship between words, images, and material form?
This intensive six-day course introduces the artistic principles and practical methods of translating text into visual language. Drawing on historical techniques as a foundation for contemporary practice, the course explores how intermedial (word–image) relationships shape the design of artist books.
Combining theory and hands-on studio work, participants will develop both conceptual understanding and practical skills to create their own book-based artworks.
Course Structure
Each day is divided into two parts:
Morning (2 hours): theory sessions
Afternoon (4 hours): in-studio practice
Theoretical material is delivered through a sequence of short presentations and video lectures (approx. 20 minutes each), followed by discussion and Q&A.
Studio sessions focus on applying the concepts introduced in the morning, allowing participants to immediately translate theory into practice.
